GRAVENHURST WELCOMES CONNX CANADA

The growing demand for home automation has opened new opportunities for companies in the home automation product and service industry including the latest new business opening in Gravenhurst, Connx Canada.

“We felt there was a huge under serviced niche in the home automation and rural high speed internet sectors in Gravenhurst-Muskoka area and we are here to fill it,” said Rodd Wazny, partner who was asked about his decision to locate in Gravenhurst, “we have numerous seasonal and year round residents that would benefit from our products and services.”

Home automation offers several benefits, including energy savings and security by allowing, for example, a seasonal dwelling owner, to control lighting, heating and cooling from a remote location such as their permanent residence in Toronto. Both partners Michael Rabey and Rodd Wazny own similar businesses in Havelock and Peterborough Ontario respectively. The two partnered to open Connx Canada. They have six employees and already their business has taken off.

According to the District of Muskoka’s website, Connx has a potential sizable home automation market in Muskoka. In 2006, there were 20,658 seasonal dwelling, 3,066 located in Gravenhurst.

“Gravenhurst continues to gain traction as a place to do business,” said Mayor Donaldson, “just in the last three months we had three new businesses open.”
